Disabled Parking in Rugby.
Rugby Borough Council and Rugby Disability Forum reached agreement a few months ago, that the percentage of Disabled Parking Bays could be increased in Rugby. During discussions we worked out where we would like the increased bays to be placed.
For example;- there are to be two extra bays in front of the Benn Memorial Hall and a complete row behind the Council Offices to give access to Caldecott Park.
Also, North St car park spaces will be moved from the slope, to a more advantageous position, and there will be a few other changes, around the towns other off road car parks.
We originally wanted an increase from 33 places to 50 - we managed to agree a total of 46; although, in effect, for a short period of time … until the Railway Terrace Hotel is built … there will be 54 places available.
All these disabled parking spaces will be limited to a 3 HR Stay Restriction. The idea being to free up the use of the bays, and prevent them being tied up all day by disabled drivers who are working in the Town Centre. Cars can be moved to a different car park after three hours, if absolutely necessary.
We must point out that these changes do not affect any of the WCC street parking controls now in force.
If there is a genuine reason why somebody needs to be in Rugby for any special reason they can contact RBC to notify them in advance. They are also issuing reduced cost season tickets for Blue Badge holders who work in Rugby Town Centre.
All Parking Ticket machines are being re-assessed with RDF, to ensure they are fully accessible to all disabled people, to include deaf and partially sighted people as well as wheelchair users. These will become DDA compliant.
Illegal misuse of Disabled parking bays will be closely monitored and ticketed accordingly.
One of the spin off benefit’s, is that the council are now going to patrol the parking bays at the Sports Centre. The Disabled bays outside the entrance will become part of their regular monitoring.
