Rugby Disability Forum – Minutes of an Ordinary meeting held at Hamilton House at 10:00 am on Tuesday 25th October 2005

1) Correspondence

1. A Letter received from Sue Hillman giving notice of her resignation as Treasurer for the Forum was read out at the meeting.

2. Anyone aged 60+ can receive free electric blanket testing at The Claremont Centre, 43 Clifton Rd on Tuesday 29th November.

Unsafe blankets will be replaced free of charge. This service will be provided by Powergen. Anyone wanting to take advantage of this service should telephone Age Concern as soon as possible on

01788 330885 to make an appointment.

 

2) AGM

3) Minutes of Meeting 27th September 2005:

Some members had not received minutes, this will be looked into.

 

4) Matters Arising: - from minutes not on agenda:

None

 

5) Committee Report - TM

 

Tim Margerison reported back to the Forum on the latest Committee meeting where the following were discussed:-

Access guide, Caldecott Park and Drop kerb action plans as well as hate crime

Race Equality Partnership – David Foster will represent the Forum on this new partnership.

Jack and David will meet with Jeremy Wright and use this opportunity to discuss the issues faced and raised by the Forum.

David explained that all committee members meet every 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Town Hall at 10:00 except for the next meeting on Weds 9th November comm. Room 2 at the Town Hall.

ACTION: John Burrell to mail out dates of all future committee meetings to all members of the 2005-2006 committee.

 

6) Reports:-

a) Police Spot; – HM

Harry circulated information on the Coventry & Warwickshire Community Safety Scheme who are delivering a Burglary Reduction Service for those aged over 55 or in receipt of benefit.

Please contact the scheme on 02476 231714 to take advantage of this free service

Warwickshire Police have personal attack alarms available and several other types of alarms available to be purchased at discounted rates from Rugby Police front desk.

David has taken advantage of this service and has had a full security check and had extra security measures fitted. David recommended the service as being thorough and professional.

ACTION: Harry will find out whether there is an e-mail address contact and whether the information produced is available in other formats.

ACTION: Harry will bring examples of alarms available to the next Forum meeting

 

7) Items for Discussion: -

a) Social Function; – DF.

53 people have confirmed their attendance for the meal on the 11th November.

b) DRC Meeting 9th December 2005 – DF

David asked all members to come to a meeting on the 9th December at the Betts Hall which will be run by Jeremy Wright at 7:15pm. This meeting is being facilitated by the DRC, who are sending a Manager.

It is imperative that Forum members come together at this event to put forward Disability issues to the MP.

c) Hate Crime.

David has been in contact with Carolyn Went who has been off sick for a number of weeks. They are aware that there are many problems with the website www.report-it.org and that Disability is not yet suitably addressed. Carolyn will come and meet with the Forum.

 

8) Web Site Launch - PT

Paul demonstrated the Rugby Disability Forum website which was launched at the AGM. The site is www.rugbydisabilityforum.org and has been built by Council of Disabled People (CDP) for the Forum and funded by Rugby Area Committee of Warwickshire County Council.

The site enables the Forum to promote itself and its achievements as well as store copies of meeting minutes along with all of the press coverage that the Forum has received.

The site has a message board for all members to use to share information, chat and ask questions.

A handful of members will be trained by CDP in updating the site over 3 half days. Those who elected to go on the training were:

Derek & Sue Hillman, David Foster, Steve Bunyan, Geoff Wild and Andrew Cowen.

 

9) Any Other Business: -

Steve Bunyan raised that the notices at the Town Hall informing people of council properties available to swap are often placed on coloured card or paper and that this is often difficult to read for some Disabled people.

ACTION: Eileen to address this issue.

 

10) Date of Next Meeting :– 10am 29th November 2005:- where a talk on ‘SERVICE CALL’ will be held.
